County to collect household hazardous waste April 23-24

DELAND -- Volusia County’s Solid Waste Division is hosting a household hazardous waste collection event for materials such as paint, used oils, pesticides, fluorescent lamps, car batteries and cleaning chemicals. These materials could contaminate ground water or pose a threat to the owner if kept too long.

County residents may drop off household hazardous wastes without charge at:

● Ormond Beach Public Works, 501 N. Orchard St., from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Friday, April 23;

● DeBary City Hall, 16 Columba Road, DeBary, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24.

Only unmixed household hazardous waste is accepted. Businesses are not eligible for free disposal during these collection events. Insulin needles will be accepted in approved containers; the containers will not be returned.

Residents also may bring their household hazardous waste to the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange or the West Volusia Transfer Station in DeLand year-round for free disposal. These facilities also provide a paint exchange program and electronic waste recycling for residents without charge.
