Orange City hero cop Sherif El-Shami is in the running for a special award on the TV show "America's Most Wanted."
ORANGE CITY -- Already described by local media and colleagues alike as a hero cop, Orange City police officer Sherif El-Shami, who lost an eye after being shot in the line of duty with a suicidal man in March 2009, that caused him to lose an eye, is now in the running for a heroic award on a national TV program.
El-Shami's story has put him in the running for a spot on the show "America's Most Wanted" as an All-Star First Responder.
Shards of metal hit El-Shami in both eyes from the shooting, but he was still able to get back into his car and put it in reverse to get to safety. Despite losing an eye, he returned to duty four months later.
