Free Tuberculosis testing at Atlantic High School Monday and Tuesday in wake of student getting TB

PORT ORANGE -- Tests for tuberculosis are being offered at Atlantic High School after a student there tested positive, the Volusia County Health Department said.

Health officials will offer free tuberculosis tests at Atlantic High School at 8 a.m. Monday, and 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Advanced Technical College there where the student was enrolled.

Health officials said the chances of others catching the virus are remote, but the tests are being offered as an extra precaution since the student was diagnosed last week. The student is expected to fully recover but a tietable on a return to school has not been announced.

School officials sent home letters and called parents and guardians, informing them a student had contacted TB.
