Above, volunteers and cancer survivors alike stayed in tents overnight Friday at the park as if it was its own community, and for 24 hours, indeed it was.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Riverside Park was converted into a tent city overnight Friday so volunteers and cancer survivors alike could continue their fundraising efforts non-stop over 24 hours. The payoff was $130,000 raised.

Everything was orderly, peaceful and harmonious, organizers said. There was also an extra layer of security with police Sgt. Christopher Roos and officer Michael Delahanty on police bicycles through the night.
There was a live auction, a talent show, food vendors, arts and crafts and of course, money collected to fight cancer.

Jennifer Norman, 20, of Edgewater, summed up the sentiments of a lot of the people who checked out the relay fundraiser extravaganza.
"It's pretty neat," she said.
