Karen A. Wiley, age 61, of New Smyrna Beach, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Karen came to this area in 1973 from Columbiana, Ohio.
A graduate of Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio, Karen taught in the Ohio public school system and later served as a substitute teacher for the Volusia County Schools System. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Smyrna Yacht Club, and enjoyed reading, Sudoku puzzles, and taking cruises with her family.
Survivors include her husband, David; son, David, Jr. of Miami; daughter, Tiffany of New Smyrna Beach; 3 sisters, Jayne Duncan and husband, Bob, of Marietta, Georgia, Kassie Jones of St. Charles, Illinois, and Shannon Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio; her mother, Anne Jones, also of Marietta; mother-in-law, Ruth Cassaday of New Smyrna Beach; and other in-laws, Ann and Monty Busick of Fuquay, North Carolina, Bob and Sharon Wiley of New Smyrna Beach, and Donald and Cynthia Wiley of Marion, Ohio.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and as this will be celebration of Karen's life, colorful dress is encouraged. A reception will follow at Smyrna Yacht Club.
Although Karen loved flowers, especially daisies, the family welcomes memorial donations to American Diabetes Association, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland, Florida 32751-7105.
