Early Saturday fire destroys Edgewater mobile home; damages estimated at $50,000

Charred remains are what's left of this residence in Edgewater's Seahorse Mobile Home Park that after an early Saturday fire caused by an electrical problem, fire officials said. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the burning structure with the exception of minor damage to a neighboring home.

EDGEWATER -- Before dawn Saturday, Edgewater Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene of a residential structure fire at 414 North Ridgewood Ave., Lot 21, of the Seahorse Mobile Home Park that consumed a mobile home. Nobody was home at the time.

"Upon arrival, crews found a single wide mobile home with heavy fire throughout the rear of the structure," Edgewater Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Jill Danigel said. "Crews had the fire under control within seven minutes of the arrival of the first fire apparatus. There were no occupants at home at the time of the fire."

She said there was minor damage to the aluminum siding of the unoccupied mobile home on the west side of the Lot 21. The mobile home to the east of Lot 21 sustained no damage. but was occupied at the time of the fire. The resident of that mobile home was evacuated for a short time until the fire was extinguished.

An Initial investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office revealed the cause of the 3:55 a.m. fire to electrical in nature, Danigel said. The estimated loss from the fire is $50,000, she added.

Edgewater Fire Rescue responded with Engine 55, Engine 57, Battalion 55, Utility 57, Fire Marshal 55 and Division 55. Mutual aid response from New Smyrna Beach Fire Department included Engine 50, Tower 51 and Battalion 53. There were 20 firefighters on scene.
