Barbara Arteta, age 63, of New Smyrna Beach, died Thursday, September 9, in Jesup, Georgia. Born in New York City, Mrs. Arteta came to this area in 1994 from Plattekill, New York.. During her working career, she was an executive administrator for a real estate company in Manhattan, the first female assembly line supervisor at the Ford Motor Plant at Mahwah, New Jersey, and a production scheduling manager at Star Expansion, Mountainville, New York, where she met her husband, Eugene.
Mrs. Arteta was a graduate of Cathedral High School in New York City. Active in our community, she was active with the Parkinson's Association of Greater Daytona Beach; volunteered at the Drug Free Youth Thrift Store in New Smyrna Beach; and assisted in beach clean up efforts. Also, she took time to bake for others in the community and was known for her cheesecakes, muffins, and strawberry shortcakes.
Daughter of the late Mari and David Klicsu, Barbara is survived by her husband, Eugene; son, Victor (Lisa) Nieves of Monroe Township, New Jersey; daughter, Kim (Peter DiPietrantonio ) Nieves of Bronx, New York; step-son, Eugene (Victoria) Arteta, Jr. of West Haven, Connecticut; 2 step-daughters, Terisa (Bruce) Coppola and Christine (Vincent) Javinett, both of Plattekill, New York; brother, David (Debbie) Klicsu of Orlando; sister, Irene Klicsu of New Smyrna Beach; grandchildren, Jason and Ryan Coppola, Geno Arteta, Vincent and Vanessa Javinett, Nicole, Allison, and Kristina Nieves, Violet DiPietrantonio; and great-grandchildren, Xavier, Leah, Arianna, and Anthony Coppola.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 17, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with the Reverend John Murray officiating.
