New Smyrna Beach 'Cudas defeat previously unbeaten DeLand Bulldogs, 28-24

New Smyrna Beach quarterback Evan Schroeder and running back Raheem Mostert connected on several passing plays with no timeouts, the final one a touchdown strike, to come from behind in the closing minute of Thursday's home game for a 28-24 win over the previously unbeaten DeLand Bulldogs. NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- 'Cudas quarteback Evan Schroeder and running back Raheem Mostert hooked up on a series of passing plays starting from their own 25-yard line, the final one a 9-yard touchdown strike to give New  Smyrna Beach a 28-24 come-from-behind victory over previously unbeaten DeLand at the NSB Sports Complex.

 

The first strike was a screen pass that Mostert took up the field for 50 yards. Then Mostert hold in another pass, this one taking him into the end zone and with the extra point, a 28-24 lead that held up with 15 seconds left in the game.

The win snapped the 'Cudas two-game losing streak and brought them back to .500 at 3-3. DeLand fell to 5-1.

Mostert had 150 yards of total offense while fellow running back Telvin Hooks scored on three rushing touchdowns of 59, 25 and 33 yards as part of 132 yards on the ground. DeLand's De'Ante Saunders rushed for a game-high 140 yards, including two touchdown runs of 10 and 20 yards.

NSB's Schroeder completed 7 of 11 passes for 143 yards and the touchdown strike to Mostert.
