Flare Elliott, a Canal Street merchant and one of the leaders of the Friends of Historic Canal Street, is excited that the FEC has a train passing through New Smyrna Beach next month to deliver toys for tots.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Who needs a sleigh when there's a train? The Florida East Coast "Toys For Tots" Train will stop in New Smyrna Beach on Dec. 11 at Myrtle Avenue and the tracks.
New Smyrna Beach is one of only eight whistle stops that Santa will make as he ttravels from Jacksonville to Miami on that upcoming Saturday in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, New Smyrna Beach, City Point, Fort Pierce, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
"Santa will also have a goodie bag for each child who comes to see him when the train stops in each city," said Flare Elliott, of the Friends of Historic Canal Street Inc.
"We are honored to be chosen as one of Santa's stops. Wow." Each stop will be 20 minutes, and Santa will present FEC employee Toys for Tots donations to the local representative of the Toys for Tots drive to be distributed afterward. The New Smyrna Beach stop is 10:30 a.m
