After a great mini-Thanksgiving vacation with a friend, practicing for the school play that I’m in, studying for semester exams, and dealing with the stacks of homework, I’m ready for a weekend to sleep. That’s right; the semester at New Smyrna Beach High School is almost over as the school year hits its half way mark.
A lot of reviewing, studying, and retracing back to what we’ve learned so far this year will occupy the upcoming week. The exam is a very large part of our grade so we want to be ready for it.
As I said, my vacation was amazing! It was absolutely beautiful and I had so much fun.
It wasn’t too cold and the Thanksgiving feast was delicious. We stayed in a large cabin on a mountain side in the Carolinas and had the whole experience of toasting smores, watching movies, and hiking alongside rivers and waterfalls. I absolutely love that the weather is changing and it’s getting colder.
I’ve always enjoyed places where you see the seasons change and I love the mood cold weather puts people in, especially the feeling of Christmas and holidays that always guarantees warmth and care between friends, family, and even strangers.
I am very excited that my school has been hosting many can food drives for our community. Prizes such as breakfast parties have been advertised as motivation for students to get involved. It is estimated that between 700 and 1,800 people struggle for food, some who even attend school, and some in the community are homeless.
With so many people hungry and struggling, it is incredibly sad and unfortunate, especially around the holidays.
It’s always hard to see food going to waste in some places or people on diets when there are people that are in such need. The drama club recently collected over 3,000 pounds of food for the community!
PTSA is now sponsoring another drive with hopes that everyone will be fed this Christmas. Be sure to do your part and donate what you can to a local church or bring unopened, new gifts to a business participating in Christmas drives. Although you may be economically stable, for the most part right now, don’t forget those less fortunate. Spread the holiday cheer and joy this season and help out your community.
