EDGEWATER -- Two bodies were found in woods off Opossum Camp Road just west of Interstate 95 and skeletal remains in the area of Maytown Road in Oak Hill, a dispatcher for Edgewater police confirmed early this morning.
Other than the locations, no other details were released. There are unconfirmed reports police were led to the skeletal remains by a "person of interest in the disappearance of Jennifer Rado, but Edgewater police did not respond to NSBNews.net's inquiries through the police department's overnight dispatch service. An Edgewater patrol sergeant flat out refused to respond to media inquiries.
The dispatcher with Regional Communications Center said a "press release" was sent to the dispatch center via fax at 9 p.m. from the Edgewater Police Department, but media outlets were not contacted directly and the news trickled out slowly.
The dispatcher read a brief synopsis over the phone just after 1 a.m. as follows: "The Edgewater Police Department was made aware of two bodies on Old Possum Camp Road west of Interstate 95. The bodies have not been identified. The investigation is just beginning and information will be made available as it is obtained. In what is believed to be an unrelated matter, investigators were led to the location of skeletal remains in Oak Hill off of Maytown Road. The identity of these remains is unknown.
The dispatcher continued: "At this time, there's no reason to believe the two incidents are related. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office are assisting with the investigation."
Edgewater Sgt. K. Rash was on patrol early this morning, but refused to answer media inquiries, the Port Orange-based dispatcher said. The dispatcher said he was not authorized to contact Edgewater Police Chief Dave Arcieri.
NSBNews.net called Mayor Mike Thomas shortly after 1 a.m. and he said any information would have to come from the police. He described the area as "very rural" and desolate, but otherwise had no further comment.
