DELAND -- A defensive play in overtime resulted in a 92-yard touchdown that led the New Smyrna Beach 'Cudas over the DeLand Bulldogs, 41-35, Friday night at Spec Mark Stadium.
DeLand led 21-0, in what looked to be a blowout, but New Smyrna Beach came back strong in the second half to tie the game at the end of regulation.
When it seemed the Bulldogs would knock off the 'Cudas for a second year in a row, NSB linebacker Kyle Hall knocked the ball from JoJo Kemp and lumbered 92 yards to score the winning touchdown. With the loss, DeLand falls to 0-2 on the new season while New Smyrna Beach goes to 2-0.
The 'Cudas will have their home opener Friday night against Flagler Palm Coast. DeLand will meet Seabreeze at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach.
