DAYTONA BEACH -- Fresh off his his re-election on the County Council dais in November with his big win over challenger Nancy Epps, Joshua Wagner has a new private career challenge: He's partnering up with Daytona Beach attorney Ted Doran.
Wagner, a former prosecutor under then-State Attorney John Tanner and in private practice since 2006, has begun his new job with Doran Sims Wolfe & Kundid.
"I wanted to be a part of a firm that really believes in community service, so in my opinion, it was a perfect fit," Wagner told Headline Surfer® repeating what he had said in earlier media interviews before starting in earnest Wednesday.
Wagner, 35, and married with two small children, described himself as a workaholic, dividing his time between a full-time career in law and the nearly-full-time responsibilities that come with being an elected county official. county official.
Wagner, who left his law firm, Bundza, Wagner and Rodriguez, about a year ago, where he handled personal injury and criminal defense cases, said he's looking forward to broadening the the types of cases that will come with the much larger Dorn law firm.
Doran was more than pleased to add Wagner to his firm, saying in part, "From my perspective, to have an attorney of Josh's stare, it means we are going to do great things together in the community."
It 's easy to see where there would be a marriage between two politicians. After all, Doran is a member of the Halifax Area Advertising Authority and a former chairman of the tourism entity.
And while Wagner was seeking re-election last year for a second four-year term representing district 2 (greater Daytona Beach) on the Volusia County Council, Doran ran for county chair, finishing third and out of the running in the primary in what was his first campaign for elective office.
Relative unknown Jason Davis crushed former County Council member Carl Persis in the general election by a 20,000-vote plurality.
Wagner's decision to move over to the larger law firm has far more to do with his legal expertise than politics, he and Doran emphasized. "Not everything has to be political." Wagner said, with Doran adding, "This is all business."
