Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis is asking voters to note the upcoming voter registration deadline for the General Election on Nov. 8.
"The book closing date for the upcoming Nov. 8, 2016 election is Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016," Lewis told Headline Surfer. "By Florida law, a person must be registered at least 29 days prior to an election, in order to be eligible to vote in that election. The application is available online and must be printed and signed, delivered or postmarked by Oct. 18. Registration applications can be downloaded from the Department of Elections website at www.volusia.org/elections.

The Elections Office will be open for extended hours weekdays up to and including Tuesday to accept voter registration applications. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Volusia County Historic Courthouse, 125 West New York Ave., DeLand.
Vote-by-Mail Ballots (absentee): Many ballots and/or return envelopes have been damaged due to the weather or if a voter has not received their ballot; we are asking voters to please contact the department.
