ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Volusia County candidate Heather Post sent out a press release Tuesday in which she stated she and her opponent, Al Smith, interviewed with several associations for endorsements and she "received them all."
“I am proud to know that these citizens whose goal it is to advocate for and make our community better have chosen me to be the people’s representative on the Volusia County Council,” Post said. “I have a proven track record of community commitment and public service and look forward to giving 110% in that role.”
Post listed the following as endorsing her for the district 4 seat, replacing Doug Daniels who opted not to seek re-election after one term:
* Volusia County Deputies Association;
* Volusia/Flagler AFL-CIO;
* Volusia Professional Firefighter’s Association;
* Volusia Building Industry Association;
* Volusia Watermen’s Association.
Post included in her press release a quote from Stacy Stepanovich, President of the Volusia/Flagler AFl-CIO: “We believe that Heather Post will work diligently to secure and improve the quality of life for Florida’s working families in Volusia County.”
And Post, a former Volusia County deputy, included a statement from the executive board of the Volusia County Deputies Association: “Post’s commitment to community, coupled with her proven leadership makes her an excellent candidate for Volusia County Council.”
Post, and Smith, a former events promoter and morning host on WNDB Radio, finished 1-2 in the Aug. 30 primary among five candidates. However, Post fell short of the 50 percent-plus 1 vote threshold to win it outright, finishing with 8,240 votes or 42.1 percent. Smith was a distant second with 5,333 or 27.51percent. They will face off again in the Nov. 8 general elections.
Finishing third with 2,047 votes or 10.56 percent was former Holly Hill Mayor Roy Johnson. Linda Bourquin-McIntyre, who was part of a contingent of pro-beach driving advocates who were soundly defeated in the primary, finished fourth with 1,935 votes or 9.98 percent. And finishing fifth was Roland Via, another former Holly Hill mayor, who received 1,830 votes or 9.44 percent.
