DELTONA, Fla. -- Despite sitting out a planned Daytona Beach News-Journal debate with his opponent, Fred Lowry easily won re-election to a second four-year term on the Volusia County Council in Tuesday's primary.
The vote tally wasn't even close in the three-way contest for the District 5 seat on the County Council out of Deltona: Lowry received 9,022 votes or 57.03 percent of the overall total to win the primary outright. Political newcomer Dan Hunt finished a distant second with 6,738 votes or 42.59 percent of the total and write-in candidate Eric Allen garnered a paltry 60 votes or .38 percent of the total.
