DAYTONA BEACH, Fla -- Henry Frederick was the most prolific metro reporter in the newsroom in his 8 1/2-years with the Daytona Beach News-Journal, from 1996 to 2004, amassing more journalism-industry awards than any other reporter.
Among Frederick's achievements:
• The first reporter to cover every special event in the same year, including overnight coverage of Black College Reunion.
• In 1998, while initially working out of DeLand for the first two years, became the first DBNJ reporter from a bureau to win a journalism award in 1998, and actually won two of them before being brought to the main office where he was initially assigned cops and cops on nights and weekends.
