Astronomer to speak at Port Orange Reg Library

PORT ORANGE, Fla -- Astronomer Kevin Manning, a former consultant with NASA, will share his passion for astronomy in a hands-on program titled “Astronomy for Everyone” from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle.

"Attendees will learn about the size and scale of the universe, the stars and other celestial wonders through activities and visuals," Pat Kuehn, community Information specialist with Volusia County, told Headline Surfer. "They will also venture outside to view the night sky through a telescope."

Reservations are not required for this free program, which is geared toward adults and kids ages 8 and up. For more information, call the library at 386-322-5152, option 4.

The program is part of the Volusia County Public Library's NEA BigRead, a six-week celebration of “A Wizard of Earthsea,” a 1968 fantasy novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
