"Since the day I arrived to Congress, impeaching President Trump has been Democrats' number one priority — all at the cost of actually solving the problems Americans elected us to solve," Congressman Michael Waltz tweeted. "America leads when we're at our best — and this isn't America at its best."

During his brief remarks on the House floor, Waltz, bressed in a dark suit with a red tie, said the Democrats have targeted Trump since he defeated Hillary Clinton three years ago.

“It’s a shame that impeaching President Trump has been Democrats’ number one priority since they lost the election in 2016, well before the current charges regarding Ukraine,” Waltz said. “For the past three months, (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) has rushed through a secretive, unfair, partisan and incredibly divisive impeachment process,” he said, pivoting to other issues, including the economy and national security.

Waltz continued, “While Democrats have been distracted and moving full-speed ahead with impeachment, they waited nearly a year to vote on the USMCA trade deal and have yet to tackle major issues in a serious way, like our growing federal debt, fixing our broken immigration system, protecting Social Security and Medicare, reforming our healthcare system and modernizing our infrastructure. I will vote against impeachment today because I believe we need to focus on our jobs in Congress rather than taking this president out of office,” he said. “Let the American people decide our next president in the 2020 election.”
