DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Volusia County Beach Safety flew the yellow flag earlier today - the Fourth of July.
"We rescued 32 people out of the ocean without incident," Beach Safety Watch Commander Capt. AJ Miller told Headline Surfer in an email media alert.
The beaches were full, but not jam packed, thanks inm part to intermittent thunderstorms throughout the day.
Beach Safety emphasized that coming to the beach, that people remember parking regulations that are in place: Vehicles parking on the beach must park at blue post or a brown conservation pole. And Beach Safety stresses that beach goers be vigilant about maintaining distance from other beach-goers.
With the holiday weekend here, Beach Safety stressed in its email media alert that everyone please remember fireworks are strictly prohibited on Volusia County Beaches as well as all Volusia County walkovers, parks, and beach approaches.

As for Sunday with thunderstorms expected, Beach Safety remionds everyone to be mindful of the afternoon thunderstorms, which usually have lightning. Summer is the most dangerous season for lightning with the most lightning fatalities occurring in June, July and August. If at the beach, keep in mind that lightning can strike 10 miles from the storm. Beach-goers are reminded that if at the beach and they hear thunder, they should go indoors. Lifeguards will also wave people out of the water and ask beach-goers to exit the beach if a storm is approaching or if there is lightning in the area.
