New Smyrna Beach Cops: Orlando man involved in motor vehicle crash on North Causeway arrested on DUI charges

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- An Orlando man has been charged with driving under the influence and other charges in a hit-and-run crash on the North Causeway, cops said.

Here is a synopsis of what occurred at 5:45 p.m. on Monday: New Smyrna Beach cops responded to a crash on the North Causeway involving a vehicle and a golf cart. Witnesses stated the driver of the vehicle ran from the scene heading toward Buena Vista Park, and appeared to have a visible injury to his forehead.

A short time later, officers located the suspect -- later identified as 23-year-old Steven Sedillo of Orlando -- hiding behind a residence on Granada Street, nearly half a mile from the scene of the crash.

Sedillo was placed under arrest and charged with DUI, DUI with property damage or injury, hit and run involving Injury, and resisting an officer without Violence. During a search of the vehicle, cops found two open containers of beer and a cooler with ice. Additional beer bottle caps were found in Sedillo’s pockets at the time of his arrest.

Sedillo was also issued seven traffic citations related to the incident, according to police. He is represented by Kaitlin Harris of the Public Defender's Office as he proceeds in felony court for his third DUI arrest, according to records filed with the Volusia County Clerk of the Court.
