ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- An 81-year-old man found dead in shallow waters on Wednesday was the aopparent vivtim of a drowning, according to a social media post from Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.
Responding lifeguards found the man unresponsive at 12:24 p.m. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Officials did not release his name, home community, or what caused the drowning, but dispensed some practical advice to beach-goers.
"Always swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower and download the Volusia Beaches app for beach conditions and staffed tower locations," Beach Safety stated in a post on Facebook.
