Two-Time Indy 500 Winner Gordon Johncock has died at age 90 of natural causes

NTT IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500 video / Remembering two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and 1976 IndyCar Series champion Gordon Johncock, who died on Sept. 28, 2026, at age 90 of natural causes. Johncock won 25 races during his 25-season career, including the 1982 Indianapolis 500, where he defeated Rick Mears in one of the closest finishes in race history. Johncock also won the crash-marred, rain-shortened 1973 Indy 500.
