Ormond Beach motorist killed in multi-vehicle crash on S.R. 40

ORMOND BEACH -- A 35-year-old Ormond Beach woman was killed 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when she lost control of her car and struck two other vehicles on State Road 40, near Interstate 40, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Misty Joan Driggers was westbound on S.R. 40 near Shadow Crossings Boulevard, when she lost control of her car, crossed the median and struck an oncoming motorist from Ocala before rolling over and striking another driver from Ormond Beach.

Driggers was pulled from her car, which caught fire and was pronounced dead on the scene. The first motorist struck, 21-year-old Adam Coy, was taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach as was the driver of the second car, Lucy Bell, 61, of Ormond Beach, both with minor injuries. A passenger in Bell's car, Sheldon Bell, 23, was not injured.

The highway patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. A stretch of S.R. 40 was closed while emergency crews tended to the victims and removed the damaged vehicles.
