NEW SMRNA BEACH -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson brought his brand of speechmaking to the Alen Chapel AME Church in New Smyrna Beach the night after Halloween in support of President Obama's re-election campaign.
He then went to a second rally at the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Daytona Beach in support of Obama and then-mayoral candidate Derrick Henry, who would go on to become the mayor of Daytona Beach after his overwhelming victory over then-Commissioner Edith Shelley in the November elections.
Jackson spoke mostly about economics though he made it clea fm hs perspective that blacks are still being shortchanged long afer the aboloshment of slavery.

"People are still using outhouses," Jackson said, adding the word poverty has become a word shunned by politicians.
Anticipating Jackson's visit, Henry had urged the voting publc to "come out and get fired up for the election season as we participate in the most sacred right of our democracy -- the right to vote, which has progressed from the hands of white male property owners to the hands of all citizens."
