Pet owners need to be humane in their treatment of domestic animals

The day before I'm due to leave town I get a frantic call from a woman about a cat.(An everyday occurrence for me) She said a neighbor moved and left behind this beautiful pure white cat with one blue eye and one green eye. As it turned out, that neighbor did no good for the poor feline.

Volusia County Sheriff's deputy arrested at DeLand-area home on domestic battery charge

DELAND -- A Volusia County Sheriff's deputy has been placed on suspension as a result his arrest early Sunday morning by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office for battery, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

Michael Stott, 56, was off-duty at the time of the incident, Haught said in a press release to the media via e-mail at 11:12 a.m. The release said Stott works in the DeLand Courthouse and has been employed with the Sheriff's Office for 15 years.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Nineteen-year-old surfer dude Daniel True has earned his red badge of courage and he has a rather large shark bite wound on his right foot to prove it. That's no lie.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Cudas came up short in their home opener against Astronaut of Titusville, ranked eighth in the state Friday night, but there was something to cheer about: The Cheerleaders!

 Karen Lee Burger of New Smyrna Beach missing since July 25

She is described as white, 5 feet 3 and 120 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She also has a drug problem. Another New Smyrna Breach woman, Jennifer Rado, shown in the smaller photo, who had an addiction to prescription pills, was reported missing in mid-July. Her alleged killer led police to her skeletal remains last month.  

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The disappearance and eventual discovery of the skeletal remains of Jennifer Rado last month sent shock waves through this seaside city, especially because she was married with two kids. And New Smyrna Beach police do not want a repeat of this with fellow resident Karen Lee Burger, missing now for 38 days.
