In Kennedy v. Louisiana, The Supreme Court recently held that the Eighth Amendment bars states from imposing the death penalty for the rape of a child where the crime did not result, and was not intended to result, in the victim's death.
A growing number of parents are, by necessity, stepping back into the role of caregiver for their veteran son or daughter who has returned from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with debilitating and long term injuries.
An estimated 10,000 young veterans of these wars now depend on their parents for their care. Many parents have become warriors themselves fighting to make sure this new wave of injured veterans get the medical care and rehabilitation they need.
Going through police reports can be tedious. But sometimes such perusals show why committing crimes can be downright stupid. Or maybe it is the accused themselves who are, to quote my son's favorite movie character, Napoleon Dynamite -- an idiot! Take Wade Jared Murphy for instance. He was caught at the scene three hours later at the 7-Eleven in New Smyrna Beach with a no trespass warning in his pants pocket by the same cop. Or how about Corey Wilton Eichelberger who was rescued in the Indian River after breaking free and making the plunge while handcuffed behind his back.
The mainstream liberal media and the left do not appear to take the threat from radical Islam very seriously, but people in New Smyrna Beach do. Pete Gastaldi, 44, of NSB says he feels threatened by the ideology of radical Islam, even as the mainstream media steadfastly refuses to connect the dots, which lead to the conclusion that the radical Muslims have been at war with the U.S. for decades. Even the horrors of 9/11 have failed to convince the left or the media that these people are a real threat.
Gastaldi responded further: "I don’t understand why we are giving them so much?"
