DAYTONA BEACH --- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 14 percent in June compared with June 2010. During the month 44,687 passengers flew in or out of the airport in comparison with 39,296 passengers in June 2010.

For the 12 months ending June 30, passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport is up 15 percent -- from 454,260 passengers last year to 523,749 passengers this year.

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- An Orlando hotelier group is planning to close late this month on the 200-room Surfside Hotel and Conference, 3209 S. Atlantic Ave., city officials confirmed.

Avista Properties, owner and manager of Orlando area hotels for three decades, last month paid $2.8 million for the Islander Resort at 3161 S. Atlantic Ave., in bankruptcy court. It was owned by the Bray & Gillespie group whjich declared bbankruptcy in 2008 on two dozen beachside hotels.

Avista also owns the Hampton Inn in the Shores.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Edward Jones Financial Advisor John Delavan of New Smyrna Beach recently received the Jack Phelan Blue Blazer Award for his outstanding business building skills and client service efforts over the past year. The award was named for the firm's former national sales manager, Jack Phelan.

Only 147 of the firm's more than 12,000 financial advisors received the Jack Phelan Blue Blazer Award.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 16 percent in April, compared with the same period last year.

Last month, 54,603 incoming and outgoing passengers passed through Daytona Beach International Airport. This compares with 46,888 total passengers in April 2010. For the 12-months ending April 30, passenger traffic increased 17 percent over the prior year to 515,352.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 14 percent in November compared with the same month last year, according to VolusiaCounty officials.

During November 37,402 incoming and outgoing passengers traveled through Daytona Beach International Airport. This compares with 32,853 travelers recorded in November last year.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Utilities Commission has introduced new electric rebates for fiscal 2011, marking the fourth consecutive year the utility has offered electric rebates.
