Obama and sequester bluff: The sky is not falling
Well, Barackula signed the sequester into law, and last time I looked, the sky was still up there. I couldn’t even find any cracks in it.
DAYTONA BEACH -- For the past week, I have been trying to write this blog but the idiocy coming out of Washington has been too much to bear.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Last week the Democrat-controlled Senate passed its first budget resolution in four years. Also there is breaking news of a major snow and ice storm which has blocked all the roads in Hell.
Well, Barackula signed the sequester into law, and last time I looked, the sky was still up there. I couldn’t even find any cracks in it.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Everyone knows that Barack Obama is a constant congenital liar. But since his inauguration diatribe and the masterpiece of mendacity that was his State of the Union address, I have given up trying to isolate individual untruths. Now I try, with decreasing success, to find something he says which is true.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Over the past couple of weeks we have witnessed a classic example of Hillary Clinton’s normal level of operation. She fails at a major task, takes all of the responsibility but none of the blame, and emerges smelling like a rose.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- The battle over the “fiscal cliff” resulted in pretty much a total victory for Barack Obama. Never mind that the income tax increases he won will only fund the government for 6 1/2 days.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- It is in the nature of critical negotiations, especially those with a deadline, that no deal can ever be reached until the last possible moment. This is primarily because neither side can be sure that they have reached the other side s bottom line until just before time runs out.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- On Nov. 6, the American people consigned their future and that of their country, their children and grandchildren to socialist hell.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- A little over two years ago we Republicans began to take a serious look at our county and its governance. What we saw was a county which had been run by the Democrats for over a generation.
Consequently it is overcommitted to a tax and spend approach which, inter alia, burdens Volusia with unsustainable debt and commitments to greater debt.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- In 90 minutes of mutually respectful, detailed and substantive debate, Mitt Romney walked away the clear winner over President Obama. The discussion focused on the economy, health care and taxes and within the first 30 minutes it was plain that Romney had the upper hand.
Both men had obviously prepared for the evening, but Obama seemed unprepared for in-depth discussion and frequently fell back on lines from his recent campaign speeches which were sometimes not wholly on target.
