Pumpkins offered at First United Church of Port Orange

PORT ORANGE -- First United MethodistChurchof Port Orange is featuring its best selection of pumpkins at its Pumpkin Patch with more than 2,000 pumpkins and assorted gourds available.

The Pumpkin Patch is open noon to 8 p.m.Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.Saturday and noon to 5 p.m.Sunday throughout the month of October.

Motorcyclist killed in Deltona crash

DELTONA -- A motorcyclist lost his life late Friday afternoon in a collision with a car near the
intersection of Haulover Boulevard and Blackburn Avenue in Deltona, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

The biker, whose name was not released, was thrown from the motorcycle in the collision with a Nissan Altima and was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:30 p.m. accident, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.

The driver of the car, whose name was immediately known was uninjured and was alone in the car.

Pilot of small plane makes emergency landing at Daytona Beach International Airport after bird gets caught in engine

DAYTONA BEACH -- A pilot's keen sense of smell was enough to do an emergency landing of a single-engine plane at Daytona Beach International Airport at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, officials there said, adding they had discovered a bird got caught in the engine.

DAYTONA BEACH -- A jury deliberated for 1 ½ hours Thursday before finding Andrew J. Ridener guilty as charged to felony lewd or lascivious battery of a 12-year-old girl he met at at a local park and befriended as a youth minister.

DAYTONA BEACH -- One hundred World War II veterans and their escorts will board a US Airways’ Airbus charter plane at Daytona Beach International Airport bound for Washington, D.C., at 6:26 a.m. Saturday. The group is the sixth from Central Florida to travel to the nation’s capital through the Volusia Honor Air program, which is organized by the Rotary Clubs in DeLand.
