DAYTON A BEACH -- A Bug Tree Road man was found murdered in his residence Friday, Daytona Beach police said.

The body of Fred Johnson Sandlin, 70, was found in his apartment at 1601 Big Tree Road, No. 607, by his ex-wife who drove from Sanford to see him when he was a no-show in picking up his 9-year-old son, police said.

PORT ORANGE -- A Spruce Creek High School football player is on the road to recovery after being hit hard during football practice earlier this week and going into cardiac arrest

Jordan Petersen, 17, collided with another player during practice late Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said he got up, took a couple of steps and collapsed.

He was rushed to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach were doctors placed him in a medically induced coma.

John Moranto, 68, head coach of the Mainland High School football team and a city resident, was charged with solicitation to commit prostitution, during a Labor Day weekend crackdown on prostitution by Daytona Beach police.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Four people have been arrested this Labor-Day weekend on prostitution-related charges in response to complaints by merchants and residents alike of the illicit activity in various parts of the city, a police spokesman said. Among the four was 68-year-old John Moranto, head coach of the Mainland High School football team and a city resident, who was charged with solicitation to commit prostitution.

Sheriff's Office: $32,000 worth of cocaine seized in Deltona traffic stop

Correy Warren, 32, who has previously served time in prison for selling drugs, was charged with trafficking in cocaine Wednesday night with $32,000 worth of cocaine seized.

DELTONA -- Agents with the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force seized more than two pounds of cocaine early Wednesday evening worth an estimated $32,000 on the streets during a traffic stop in Deltona prompted by an anonymous tip that led to the arrest of Correy Warren, 32, who was driving the vehicle and admitted that the narcotics were his, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.
