NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An 18-year-old man was arrested earlier today on attempted burglary and grand theft charges after allegedly trying to break into the BP Express Mart on Sugar Mill Drive by going through the roof, New Smyrna Beach police said.
"K-9 Officer (Abraham) Diffin noticed that the lights were off inside the BP Express Mart. He stopped to investigate and observed the suspect, later identified as Brandon Thomas, removing shingles from the roof of the business," police Sgt. Valerie Joyce wrote in her media report. "The vehicle and tag that Thomas was using had been reported stolen out of Edgewater on October 17th."
Thomas, whose address was not included in Joyce's media report, was placed under arrest in the 3 a.m. incident at the BP Express Mart, 751 Sugar Mill Drive, on charges of attempted burglary, grand theft auto and larceny. A check of the business revealed that entry had not been made. Joyce said.
Thomas was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
