Please check out our Top 100 stories of 2009, complete with photos and videos. There was plenty of news in greater New Smyrna Beach last year, from the municipal elections, to the flooding and local boy Danny Veltri winning top chef on FOX Tv's Hell's Kitchen.

So what ultimately was number one? The Anglers Club lease dispute? Adam Barringer squeaking by Sally Mackay in the mayor's race? City Manager John Hagood getting fired?

Actually, none of these. The No. 1 ranked story was, by far, the most shocking and even disturbing. Not only can you read about it, but you can watch as it happened and listen to the harrowing audio.

A lot of work went into ranking what we believe were the hundred biggest stories that had impact, one way or another.

We're not stopping there, though. In the next couple of days, we'll also have our selections for Newsmaker of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year.

As NSBNEWS.net starts a new year with you, we will continue daily coverage of local news events as they unfold here and throughout Volusia County, as well as provide our rotating headlines on news in Washington, around the nation and world, plus the national sports scene and Hollywood gossip.

We also have more advertising support with Clancy's Cantina, Norwood's restaurant, So Napa Wines, Bert Fish Medical Center and others.

What we're working on:

Continuing our investigative series, "Show Me the Money" with a major payout for a former city employee that has one elected official candidly saying he's embarrassed by the amount.

We'll also have a story on an NSB High School student who has the lead role in a Hollywood music video.

Plus, we'll have complete coverage of Wednesday night's City Commission action on the big contract request for Interim City Manager Pam Brangaccio, including a new video.

LOWEST AD RATES
# Advertising is welcomed and appreciated to keep greater New Smyrna Beach's only daily on-line newspaper going. We recognize that with the recession, advertising dollars are limited, which is why we have the lowest rates of all media outlets serving this community and a powerful following in the community as demonstrated by the "hits" in excess of 1,200 daily on NSBNEWS.net, your around the clock Internet source "where journalism lives."
