DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 13 percent in May compared with the same period last year, county officials said
Over the past seven months, beginning in November 2009, passenger traffic has increased an average of 10 percent per month over the same period last year.
The Volusia County-operated airport recorded 47,394 incoming and outgoing passengers during May. This compares to the 41,795 travelers recorded in May last year.
For the 12-month period ending May 31, passenger traffic declined 2 percent from 455,401 passengers last year to 445,798 passengers this year. For this May passenger loads for U.S Airways and Delta Air Lines increased from 86 percent in May 2009 to 87 percent last month.
During early June, airport staff attended the Airports Council International Marketing and Communications Conference and Jumpstart event in San Diego. Joining 400 other airport representatives from across the country, staff met with route planners from eight airlines to discuss new service from Daytona Beach, said Steve Cooke, the airport’s director of business development.
“Daytona Beach International Airport was well received and encouraged during recent discussions with airline route planners in San Diego and we will be continuing follow up discussions with several over the summer,” Cooke said.
