Sept. 12, 1924 - July 12, 2010
Elsie Bolton Langston Pike, age 85, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away on July 12, 2010. Born in Chesterfield, Illinois on September 12, 1924 to Sarah and Arthur Bolton, the family moved to this area when she was an infant. Residing here for the rest of her life, she graduated from Live Oak High School in 1942, was married to Lamar Langston 1943 to 1957, and enjoyed being a devoted mother and homemaker.
She was employed by Winn Dixie from 1958 until 1975 and made lasting friendships with many employees and customers. As a child she received many pins for perfect Sunday school attendance as a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, later becoming a faithful member of First Baptist Church, and from 1975 until her death she was a devoted member and participant of Glencoe Baptist Church, all in New Smyrna Beach.
Mrs. Pike loved reading, especially her bible, made many friends playing golf in the women's league at New Smyrna Beach Golf course, and fishing off her back yard dock with her good friend, Mary Norman. Taking great pride and pleasure in maintaining her yard, her well known accomplishment was the glorious scenery provided by the annual blooming of her Shasta daisy beds.
Mrs. Pike will be greatly missed and her memory cherished by her survivors, daughter Sherri and her husband Kerry, New Smyrna Beach; grandson Trey Weiss, Atlanta, Georgia; niece Marty Musee, Daytona Beach; and nephew Terry Bolton, New Smyrna Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Pike; a sister, Dorothy Lyon; and a brother, Milford Bolton.
Her family extends deepest appreciation to the owner and staff at Sweet Bay Assisted Living, New Smyrna Beach, where she received wonderful care in the last few months of her life.
A memorial service will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20 at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach chapel, with Rick Norman, First Baptist Church of Edgewater, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Pike's honor to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
