DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Volusia County Beach Safety flew the red flag on Sunday for rough surf conditions, rescuing nine swimmers.

"Three exhausted swimmers -- two adults and one juvenile-- were transported to the hospital via EVAC for precautionary reasons," among the nine, Beach Safety Capt. Laura S. Warner told Headline Surfer in an email media alert on Sunday night.

Warner reiterated swimmers are always encouraged to enter the surf where a lifeguard is posted.
