NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Everyone loves a parade, especially a Christmas one and what better place than here in New Smyrna Beach where several thousand people lined the streets from the beachside to the mainland downtown.
"It's evident the Christmas spirit is alive in New Smyrna Beach," said Mayor Adam Barringer, who sat atop a fire truck with his fiance, Shannon Sumner, as well as City Commissioners Jim Hathaway, Judy Reiker, Lynne Plaskette and Jack Grasty and City Manager Pam Brangaccio, near the front of the parade, "as well as the turnout for the boat parade."
Saturday's late afternoon parade did not complete its run before darkness set in, much bigger than last year's extravaganza. It started in the beachfront parking lot on Flagler Avenue and worked its way across the North Causeway Bridge down to Riverside Drive and then west on Canal Street before winding down at City Hall off Sams Avenue.
