TALLAHASSEE -- New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer and State Rep. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, were among several local dignitaries at Tuesday's inauguration of Republican Rick Scott.

Dorothy Hukill said she was impressed with Scott's speech and the tone it sets as he gets ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work on dealing with the state's economic woes. .

"The mood is very positive and optimistic," said Hukill, whose 28th district includes most of southern Volusia County. "People are ready to believe that things will get better. Everyone is talking about cooperation, working together towards the common goal of creating jobs and getting Florida's economy back on track. It's very refreshing."

Mayor Adam Barringer said the atmosphere of the inauguration and Scott's address to the several thousand in attendance were very uplifting.

 "In listening to his speech, he's setting some lofty goals," said Barringer, a registered Republican. "I'm looking forward to the results that a businessman can get as the leader of our state."
