Edgewater Fire Services will hold a CPR and child drowning prevention class at the Edgewater Rotary facility Sept. 17

EDGEWATER -- The accidental drownings of eight small children so far this year across Volusia County are a vivid reminder of the importance of parental awareness and emergency life-saving training. With that in mind, Edgewater Fire Services, in conjunction with Edgewater Rotary Club, is holding an infant and child CPR class with an emphasis on drowning prevention on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The class begins at 9 a.m. and will go approximately three hours at the Edgewater Rotary facility, 2347 S. Ridgewood in the Pelican Plaza. There is no fee for the class, but size is limited to 30 so please register early by calling 386-424-2445.

Drowning prevention/safety materials and displays will be showcased an hour before and an hour after the class.

"If you care for a child under the age of 12, we encourage you to learn the lifesaving CPR skills for this age group of children," said Jill Danigel, captain of the Edgewater Fire Services and its media spokeswoman.
