EDGEWATER -- City officials reported one serious motor vehicle accident from Sunday's "no name storm" as some Orlando TV meteorologists have dubbed the low pressure system that dumped several inches of rain and brought wind gusts of up to 60 mph in some Volusia County coastal communities.
Throughout the day Sunday and into the morning hours of Columbus Day, there were sporadic power outages in small pockets throughout Edgewater, Fire Services spokeswoman Capt. Jill Danigel told NSBNews.net.
Two city lift stations were being run with generator power, 323 South Riverside Drive and 4409 Maple St. in Terra Mar Village, early Monday she said.
"Small sewage spills were associated with these outages but have been cleaned up by city crews and have been reported to the Department of Environmental Protection," Danigel said. "City crews are in the process of replacing the approximately one dozen street signs damaged by the high winds. Additional crews are removing limbs and debris from City streets, sidewalks, parks and drainage canals. No flooding or stormwater issues were reported."
Like law enforcement up and down the eastern portion of Volusia Count, Edgewater police officers responded to several calls during the storm to direct traffic around downed power lines. Edgewater firefighters responded to numerous calls for power lines into trees causing arcing of wires and small fires.
One serious automobile accident was attributed to the storm, occurring in the 2400 block of Unity Tree Drive at 3 a.m., Danigel said.
"A tree suddenly fell across the road causing the vehicle to strike the tree causing serious but non-life threatening injuries to the driver," she said. "Minor structural damage occurred to the roof of the Chick Fil A restaurant, which was closed at the time. Business resumed as normal this (Monday) morning."

Residents are advised to use extreme caution while cleaning up debris from the storm. They need to be aware that lines down could still be energized. These need to be reported to emergency services and FPL. Also caution is urged when using chainsaws and other power equipment, Danigel stressed.
