The video from youtube is far from great, but the 99-yard kick-off return for a touchdown by Raheem Mostert for the Purdue Boliermakers in the Little Caesers Pizza Bowl is spectacular. The touchdown by the 2011 NSB High graduate and Cudas great was the difference maker in Purdue's 37-32 win Tuesday over the Western Michigan Broncos.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- New Smyrna Beach High School alumnus Raheem Mostert made the biggest run of his life and got featured on ESPN's SportsCenter.
Mostert, a freshman for the Purdue Boilermakers ran a kickoff from his team's own 1-yard line to score a touchdown in the second quarter, en route to a 37-32 victory over Western Michigan in Tuesday's Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
“We had a great opportunity to bust one. I just saw daylight. I saw the end zone,” Mostert told the Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne, Ind. “I was going to sprint.”
Mostert's run came with 6:48 to play in the first half to offset what was then a 15-0 lead for the Western Michigan Broncos.
