Kissimmee cops: Mother of murdered daughter to hold vigil Saturday at location where she was found murdered

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – It was almost a decade ago ago that 22-year-old Kelly Ann Balderas was found slain in her motel room at the former Breeze Inn, located at 900 E. Vine St. by the hotel manager in well-being check after she hadn't bee heard from by friends for three days, Kissimmee cops said.

The locale is now a drug treatment facility. And it is near where Banderas's mother, mother, Diana Bryan, will be holding a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday, in remembrance of her daughter. 

The vigil will be at the corner of Damon and East Vine streets, said Stacie Miller, spokeswoman for the Kissimmee police force.

It was 10 years earlier on March 6, 2004, that Kelly Ann Balderas's body was found at 4 p.m. in her hotel room with obvious signs of trauma to her body, Miller said, adding her friends hadn't seen her in three days, which led to the well-being check and the discovery that she had been murdered.

"Kelly was known to frequent the area of East Vine Street and Main Street," Kissimmee Police Chief Lee Massie told Headline Surfer®. “We will continue to look into the facts of this case. Someone knows what happened to Kelly Ann. It is time for that person to come forward and help bring closure to Kelly Ann’s family.”

The Breeze Inn had been a home for prostitutes, drug addicts, day laborers and others who hd run afoul of the law.

Balderas, who left home at age 18 after dropping out of Auburndale High School in Polk Countyl, had been living in the $150-a-week motel for a month before someone beat her death in her room.

She had been working at a Checkers that was within walking distance to her room. Before that, she worked at a Kmart and at a Sunoco gas station

Balderas had been in jail on shoplifting and drug charges. She was the youngest of Diana Bryan's seven children and every year since her murder, the grieving mom has held a candlelight vigil for her slain daughter.
