NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Police issued a public alert this afternoon for motorists to lock their parked vehicles in the wake of the arrest of a suspected car burglar two days earlier.
During the early morning hours of Wednesday, William Henry Quick, 18, of 2846 Sunset Drive, New Smyrna Beach, entered multiple unlocked vehicles that were parked in the Inlet Shores Subdivision in New Smyrna Beach, for which was charged with 19 felony counts of breaking into automobiles, police said.
A subsequent investigation led to the identity of Quick and police were able to return stolen property to area residents.
Burglaries to Conveyances (Car breaks) are often crimes of opportunity.
"Police are urging citizens to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from them," police spokesman Sgt. Mike Brouillette said. "In this incident, Quick entered 19 vehicles, which had been left unsecured."
