DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Author Mitchell S. Jackson will read from his debut novel, “The Residue Years,” at 7 p.m. tonight at the Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 E. Magnolia Ave.
Jackson's reading will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing.
The autobiographical novel, which was published in 2013 to critical acclaim, switches between the perspectives of a young man and his mother, who recently completed a drug treatment program and is trying to get her kids back.
Jackson is a Pabst endowed chair for master writers in Atlantic Center for the Arts’ Master Artist-in-Residence Program and a clinical assistant professor of writing at New York University. He was one of 10 emerging writers to win a Whiting Award in 2016. His novel won the 2016 Ernest J. Gaines Prize for Literary Excellence, which recognizes rising African-American fiction writers.
Jackson’s writing has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Salon and Tin House. He has delivered lectures and keynote addresses at the Yale Law School RebLaw Conference, the Sydney Writers’ Festival, Brown University, Columbia University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and the 2016 TED Conference.
