This year's Biketoberfest came to a close Sunday with a death toll of two motorcyclists in separate crashes in Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach Shores. Neither man was wearing a helmet, police said.

• Kipling Kenyon, 44, of Joppa, Mo., was killed about 9:45 p.m. Sunday when a large animal crossed in front of his 1992 Harley-Davidson along Hand Avenue in Ormond Beach, Ormond Beach police spokesman Sgt. Kenny Hayes said.

• In Daytona Beach Shores, a 30-year-old New Bedford, Mass., man died about 4:34 a.m. when he and a 23-year-old passenger on his 2002 Harley-Davidson were catapulted from the bike and landed on the road in the 2900 block of South Atlantic Avenue, police spokesman Sgt. Michael Fowler said.

Friends of Richard J. Medeiros' told police that Medeiros was driving between 80 and 100 mph when he failed to negotiate an "S" curve in the road and flipped his bike end-over-end. Passenger Christine J. Vertentes, also of New Bedford, was treated for multiple fractures at Halifax Medical Center on Monday. She also was not wearing a helmet, police said.
