BREAKING NEWS: 33-year-old man killed in single-vehicle crash in Deltona this morning

DELTONA -- A 33-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash early this morning in Deltona, Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson reported.

David Owens of Deltona was killed after he lost control of his 2008 Toyota pickup truck at about 2 a.m. while traveling west on Elkcam Boulevard near its intersection with Stacey Circle.

"The pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve in the road, crossed the center line and veered onto the eastbound shoulder of the street, then struck two concrete power poles before coming to a rest against a concrete wall in the area of 2465 Elkcam Blvd.," Davidson said. "Owens was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers in the truck, which was destroyed in the crash.

The collision took down some power lines on Elkcam Boulevard, and the power was turned off within a square mile of the crash scene to make the area safe for responding rescue personnel, Davidson said

Part of Elkcam Boulevard also was closed down between Stacey Circle and Quintilis Court. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
