Congressman Ron DeSantis running for Fla governor

PALM COAST, Fla. -- Congressman Ron DeSantis has officially announced his candidacy for governor on Jan. 5,, and is endorsed by President Donald Trump.

DeSantis, 39, former Navy lawyer, and author, has been serving as the Republican U.S. Representative for Florida's 6th congressional district since 2013. The district includes Volusia, Flagler and part of St. John's counties.

The Jacksonville native made his announcement on Jan. 5. DeSantis and his wife, Casey, have one child, and live in Palm Coast. His main competitor in the Republican ranks is Adam Putnam, the Florida's agriculture secretary.
