NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas will tour flooded areas of New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange on Friday morning to assess the damage and hear from Volusia County officials what additional help is needed, including a pledge to seek federal aid, if necessary to help flood victims who have had to cope with more than 16 inches of rain since Sunday.
Following the tour, Kosmas will discuss the situation and the options for federal assistance with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Craig Fugate, who are visiting the region to tour the FEMA Long Term Recovery Office in Lake Mary.
“I have been in touch with officials at the federal, state, and local levels and I am confident that, at this time, everything that should be done is being done to help those affected by this emergency,” said Kosmas, first-term New Smyrna Beach Democrat for the 24th district.
“Tomorrow, I will visit the damaged areas to gather as much information as possible in order to convey to Secretary Napolitano and Director Fugate the urgency of the situation. If federal assistance is needed, I will do everything I can to ensure that it arrives quickly.”
Kosmas said she "strongy urges anyone who needs help with flood damage to call the Volusia County Hotline at 1-866-345-0345 or, in the case of an emergency, dial 911.
