DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona Beach International Airport has been awarded a small community air service development program grant from the U. S. Department of Transportation.

The $500,000 grant will be used to recruit new nonstop services to the Chicago area.

"The grant is an important resource that will be used to help recruit air service for the needs of the community and the region," DAB spokeswoman Joanne Magley told Headline Surfer. "A previous SCASDP grant was awarded to Daytona Beach International Airport in 2002 for service to Newark, NJ, by Continental Airlines. After that grant was completed, Continental extended its agreement with the airport."
