Ex-County Chair Phil Giorno worth consideration
DELTONA -- The maturation Rich Gailey has shown since his initial run two years ago against an entrenched incumbent has been truly amazing.
And Gailey's hard work on the campaign trail brings hope for the folks of Deltona, DeBary, Enterprise and Osteen in reversing what has been an abysmal two years under term-limited incumbent in Patricia Northey.
And this endorsement is as much about the past as it is the future. Gailey is that future and his presence on the county dais is desperately needed now.
That cannot be emphasized enough. He is first and foremost a family man with a wife of 19 years and two growing teenagers, a daughter, 15, and a son, 13. They are his life and his love.
As a small business owner, Gailey's also a provider in a household where both parents are wage earners. Family is an important theme here because of the seven elected officials on the County Council, only one, Joshua Wagner of Daytona Beach, and his wife, have minor children, two pre-school boys.

Government isn't just about roads and bridges, tourism and personnel services. It's about providing essential services, police and fire. Clean water and sewer.
Yes, perhaps many of these overlap with municipal services, but nonetheless policies and budget oversight have to become greater priorities to provide tax relief for struggling families. Lack of money leads to domestic problems and broken homes lead to children acting out.
The Gaileys have done well for their children and it shows with their middle class home on a small country road in DeBary. But Gailey knows a turn for the worse in the economy doesn't give him a break any more than the neighbor down the street.
Rich Gailey has demonstrated a commitment to his family, his career and his community over a long period of time. He's more than ready and capable to take on the challenges of serving the greater good of Volusia County on the dais in the Frank T. Bruno County Council Chambers in DeLand.
Headline Surfer® gives the full weight of its endorsement in the Aug. 26 primary to Rich Gailey.
The internet newspaper offers fellow candidate Phil Giorno, a former county chair and a Vietnam veteran, as an alternate endorsement in the primary.
